Mathematics
Welcome to our Mathematics curriculum at Richmond Hill Primary Academy.
Here's a typical interactive classroom Maths Meeting Board. This example is from Year 2. Pupils learn about, consolidate, re-visit and reason around ALL aspects of Mathematics on a regular (usually daily) basis. Precise mathematical language is taught (through star words), consolidated and applied throughout each meeting. We expect pupils to speak in full sentences within the Maths Meeting to clarify understanding and context. For example, 'The time is... This is the same, that is different, If I know, then I know... The whole is... One part is... The other part is unknown' etc.
Resources, images & models used regularly include; counting stick, clock faces, metre stick, place value charts (various forms), 10s frames, cubes, Numicon, 2D shapes, 3D shapes, calendar, coins, number lines, number square, everyday items, Diennes, part whole models, bar models, tallies amongst much more.

Early Years calculating with numbers to 10.

Early Years using a range of visual & numerical images to count to 10.

Y1 pupils using manipulatives and other mathematical resources to compare the values of 2-digit numbers.

Y2 pupils learning and practising 'regrouping' for calculation using and linking practical manipulatives & visual resources.

Y3 pupils comparing the value of 2-digit numbers using mathematical notation.

Y4 collaboratively investigating measures. In this lesson; measuring, comparing & recording length in metres using appropriate mathematical equipment.

Y5 find the area of 2D shapes which they have created using geo-boards and elastic bands.

Cross-curricular Maths in Y6. Pupils using data gathered in Geography & RE to produce a pie chart for display.
